Weight management

Being overweight can put your health at risk. Losing even a small amount of weight can make a big difference.

Evidence shows that the best way to lose weight is to make long term changes to diet and physical activity that result in a steady rate of weight loss.

Every little bit counts. Losing just 5% -10% of your weight (about 5kg-10kg or 11lbs-22lbs) can help you:

  • Feel less tired
  • Increase your energy levels
  • Move about more easily
  • Reduce breathlessness
  • Reduce back and joint pain
  • Lower blood pressure and cholesterol
  • Reduce the risk of diabetes and heart disease, stroke and some cancers

Visit One You for more information about eating healthy, moving more and start the fight back to a healthier you. Take the One You online health quiz and see how you score.

You can maintain a healthy weight by balancing 'calories in' (from food and drink) and 'calories out' (from being physically active). For information about local organisations and support available to help you lose weight go to the WISH service directory to search for details.
